On this website you will find everything you need to manage the whole range of human resource issues that can arise in your schools from time to time, from recruitment right through the employment relationship. Our recommended policies and procedures comply with legislation, have been consulted on collectively with constituent trade unions, and reflect current best practice in human resources. We also provide guidance notes, templates and documents to download and use to help you implement the procedures.
The HR area of the site is divided into seven main sections and you can navigate directly to these from our home page using the blue buttons. As you navigate around the site, you’ll also find links between pages and for documents you can download and use and these will show in red text.
We hope that you’ll find navigation around the site fairly intuitive, but to help you find your way, here’s a summary of what you can expect to find in each section:
Workforce planning - information can be found here to help you plan and change your staffing structure, design and evaluate job roles in your school, recruit staff effectively and safely, engage apprentices and manage resignations and notice periods.
Policies and procedures - our recommended suite of tried and tested policies and procedures provide a framework for managing issues arising during employment such as absence, capability, discipline, grievances and more. You can also find our HR audit documents and workforce monitoring templates here.
Employee support - here you can find information on annual and special leave, all types of parental leave, managing health issues, redeployment and equalities.
Pay and conditions - the latest pay ranges may be found here for both teaching and support staff, guidance on term time working and all types of contracts, and our model statements of particulars of employment for community schools.
Safeguarding - this section brings together all information relating to safeguarding children in your schools, including information on managing allegations against staff, guidance on your single central record to get you inspection ready, and how to manage suspensions from duty. You can also download a booking form for our regular safer recruitment training.
News and views - this is the place to visit for the latest information on what's new in HR. This section will expand over time as we update it with topical news stories impacting on your HR practice. You will also find out termly round up of 'HR News' here.
