Target audienceEarly Years PVI
This course is to support childminders to understand the importance of Observation, Assessment and Planning. This training is to develop your skills in observing and making an assessment based on what you have seen children in your care do and your knowledge of child development.
Without observation, overall planning would simply be based on what we felt was important, fun or interesting (or all three) but it might not necessarily meet the needs of the children in our care…
The Early Year handbook (2021) states that the provider must demonstrate how they will:
- meet the learning and development requirements, if appropriate]
- meet the safeguarding and welfare requirements
- develop and deliver the educational programmes, if appropriate
- identify children’s starting points and ensure that children make progress in their learning through effective planning, observation and assessment, if appropriate
- safeguard children
The Development Matters 2020 and alternative assessment tools will be discussed. We will refer to the learning requirements of the statutory framework (2021) and support early years providers in developing the skills to carry out quality observations of children in their care.
This is will be an online training session via Zoom.
