Dear NQT

NQT Induction 2020-21

We are delighted that you have chosen to begin or in some cases continue your NQT year in this vibrant and exciting London Borough of Southwark. Southwark has a rich cultural, heritage and we are sure that you will enjoy working here and the council is also fully supportive of its teachers being able to make Southwark your home too.  On behalf of Southwark Council I would like to welcome you to our borough and to the teaching profession. We hope that your working time here is fulfilling and rewarding and that this will be the first of many years service with us.

Teaching in Southwark (in common with most urban settings) is a challenging but ultimately rewarding role.

As a teacher in Southwark you have a vital part to play in contributing to Southwark’s Fairer Future Commitments which aims to make sure all schools in Southwark are Good or Outstanding, guarantee education, employment or training for every care leaver and drive up standards so that every school exceeds London averages at every stage.

Southwark Local Authority NQT team’s role is to act as the Appropriate Body(AB)  who monitors and supports the NQT induction process.

Statutory induction is the bridge between initial teacher training and a career in teaching.

Independent quality assurance of statutory induction, through the role of the appropriate body (AB), is important both for ensuring that schools provide adequate support for their NQTs, and that their assessment is fair and consistent across all institutions. In London we have a strong and active appropriate body AB pan London group who meet regularly. This group ensures that NQTs who begin their NQT induction in a London school are provided with the best chance of success.

The following information summarises the key aspects and dates for your NQTs induction year and gives you signposts to further information and support. We have also provided you with a planner to help you understand the key submission dates through out the year. We look forward to meeting you over the course of what I hope will be a rewarding year as an NQT in Southwark.
